#092 – Ben’s Roses 2

This was my first attempt at painting roses in an “alla prima” style i.e. wet on wet using traditional oil paints. It’s from a tutorial on a course with the two owned artist Trevor Waugh but having completed it I discovered the roses very closely matched those flowering on a climbing rose we planted in honour of Ben our son who died during a military training exercise. The roses were a gift from friends who are neighbours. I rrworked this first one after painting a second.
